Our History
Sandra Kahn and David Leventhal initiated the development of Playa Viva, inspired by Bill Reed's regenerative development philosophy. They embraced a holistic approach, formulating a set of core regenerative principles to guide all decisions.
David meets Amanda Ho, the founder of a travel magazine and creative agency who was passionate about covering sustainable hospitality and climate change in her storytelling. They connected deeply on understanding the increased desire for values-driven experiences.
Amanda and David go on to partner and create Regenerative Travel as a collection of independent hotels with a mission to connect travelers with environmentally and socially impactful experiences around the world.
During a global pandemic, Regenerative Travel raised consciousness around the regenerative travel movement and held its first Summit to support the paradigm shift within the industry.
Regenerative Travel held its first annual in-person Summit during Climate Week New York City at Neuehouse, gathering global industry leaders.
During the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) in November 2022, Regenerative Travel held its first Regenerative Retreat at a member hotel in South Sinai.
Amanda completes filming across the world in Malaysia, Egypt, Kenya, and Tanzania documenting the case studies featured in the Learning Series.
Amanda and O'Shannon Burns co-launch the Learning Series, sparking measurable change across the global travel industry and connecting participants into a growing movement of regenerative leaders.

Amanda Ho
Co-Founder & CEOAmanda is a Chinese American, New York-based brand strategist, travel expert, community builder and change-maker committed to help the travel, tourism and hospitality sector become a force for regeneration and healing. A visionary leader in the travel industry, she advocates for regenerative tourism practices that prioritize environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and meaningful connections.
Before co-founding Regenerative Travel, Amanda was the founder of a multi-media lifestyle publication where she honed her craft as a storyteller & producer for luxury hospitality, real estate and lifestyle brands with a passion for sustainability.

David Leventhal

Renee Kimball
Chief Steward at Tranquilo BayRenee is Co-founder of Tranquilo Bay, a boutique eco-lodge in Bocas del Toro, Panama known for this regenerative impact and conservation initiatives. An established attorney passionate about conservation and sustainable tourism, Renee has dedicated nearly two decades to preserving the region's biodiversity while creating immersive nature experiences.
Beks Ndlovu
Founder of African Bush CampsFounder of African Bush Camps, a pioneering safari company blending luxury with sustainability across Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana.
